Mini-guide to Torrevieja

Beaches. The highest rated is the wide, sandy La Mata beach in the north of the town. In the centre, along the promenade, lies Playa del Cura, and south of the port – Playa de los Náufragos.

What to see.

  • Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja Natural Park – two salt lagoons, one of which turns pink in summer; walking and cycling paths, flamingos.
  • Floating museums in the port – you can go aboard the S-61 "Delfín", a submarine decommissioned from the Spanish Navy.
  • Museum of the Sea and Salt (Museo del Mar y de la Sal) – the history of a town that grew up around salt production.
  • Parque de las Naciones – a large park with a small lake in the centre, good for a walk with children.
  • Aromático Park – a park of aromatic plants on the road to La Mata.

Where to eat. A few of the highest-rated restaurants on Google (rating and number of reviews, October 2026):

  • Restaurante Porthus by El Charro Negro – 4.9 (approx. 1,750 reviews), town centre
  • Il Padrino – Italian cuisine, 4.8 (approx. 1,700 reviews)
  • Tapas de Beirut – Lebanese cuisine, 4.8 (approx. 790 reviews)
  • Restaurante Sunset Beach – by the sea, 4.6 (approx. 1,070 reviews)
  • Brasería El Pozo in La Mata – 4.6 (approx. 1,040 reviews)

Shopping. The town has two large shopping centres – Habaneras and Centro Comercial Torrevieja (next to each other, at the entrance to town) – plus Torremarina in La Mata. Approx. 7 km to the south, in La Zenia, there is Zenia Boulevard – one of the largest shopping centres on the coast.

Did you know? The pink colour of the lagoon comes from microorganisms that live in the very salty water. Salt has been harvested in Torrevieja for centuries, and the town's history began with it. In summer the town hosts the international Habaneras song festival – which gave its name to one of the shopping centres.
